Bistro, Barbecue and Beer
These sound like the right foods for a recession.
user ratingFrom Flavor & The Menu magazine's 2009 trends to watch: Expect to see beer lists matching wine lists in complexity, thanks to an influx of new artisan beers. Pub food, meanwhile, will morph into more upscale "gastro-pub" fare. Barbecue is being upgraded from down-home cooking to include premium sides, more interesting preparations and full wine lists and cocktails to accompany it. And while beer and barbeque have gone more up market, French food is expected to become more affordable with a growth in bistro fare.
Other trends to watch: ramen and soba noodle chains, domestic artisanal cheeses, more produce from farmer's markets and fruit shakes and juices from Latin America.
