Champagne Cocktail

user rating
0.0 out of 5 stars(0)

The champagne cocktail was first recorded in Jerry Thomas’s 1862 book How To Mix Drinks, or The Bon Vivant’s Companion, where he almost certainly mistakenly specifies this as a shaken drink. That would be explosive. Another early reference to champagne cocktails is in Mark Twain’s 1869 novel, Innocents Abroad. It is thought the drink found popularity after a bartender named John Dougherty won an 1899 New York cocktail competition with a similar drink named Business Brace.

Ingredients:

1 cube brown sugar

3 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters

1 shot(s) Courvoisier V.S.O.P. cognac

Top up with Brut champagne

Garnish with an orange zest twist (spray and discard)

Method:

1. Coat sugar cube with bitters and drop into glass.

2. Pour cognac over soaked cube, then top with champagne.

3. Serve in champagne flute.
