People born in the Year of the Rabbit, according to Chinese mythology, are friendly and enjoy the company of a group of good friends. What better excuse to gather your posse and welcome the Chinese New Year (officially starting February 3) with a memorable feast of Chinese foods that will set the tone for the year ahead. The folks at Bi-Rite Market in San Francisco suggested the foods below for a festive party.

Or, if you want to be adventurous and prepare your own fortune cookies and/or dumplings—a food thought by the Chinese to symbolize wealth and prosperity—check out these recipes from Boston-based private chef Cheryl Mui-Lu. If you live in the Boston area, you can sign up for her class at the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts.—Nicole Denis
