Eastern Europe has experienced a recent rise in popularity with tourists, and savory food is certainly one of the main draws to the region. While the borders are undefined, most understand Eastern Europe to comprise the area east of Poland. Each country has a distinct cuisine, but the diet across the region is generally hearty. Bread, cabbage, pickled vegetables, meat and soups are some of the most typical foods, but a soup from Romania won’t taste the same as one from Bulgaria.—Alexandra Menglide
