Food Safety Text Alerts
Michigan's groundbreaking program.
user ratingFood-borne illnesses and product recalls can be scary, so it's best to be on alert. Michigan's Department of Agriculture is making this even easier for residents with the first food safety text message program. While statewide and federal email alerts are common, receiving a text alert means the news will get to you even faster, helping you stay safe and make the best food choices. Michigan subscribers, totaling more than 1,000 since the program began in September, receive information via a text message when there is a Class I food recall, which is when a product is deemed unsafe or unfit for human consumption, and if consumed, may cause serious health consequences or death. If you're a Michigan resident, you can subscribe at michigan.gov/mda for your choice of text message or email alerts. In other states or nationally, you can stay up to date by visiting recalls.gov, which lists the most recent recalls issued by the six participating government regulatory agencies, or foodsafety.gov, the gateway to government food safety information.
