An Introduction to Dennis Marrero
user ratingFor the past five years of my life, I’ve made a living writing about the food industry. At first, it was my need for a job that led me into this field, but as anyone who works with food or just loves food knows, it can easily become an extension of who you are as a person. As I’ve heard many say in the past, food is something that unites us. While it’s hard for people to agree on religion, politics, the environment or just about anything, food is one of those common grounds that most people can relate to in one way or another.
With that said, I am creating this blog to pay tribute to the countless food producers, restaurants, farmers and retailers that I have come into contact with who are using this common ground to make impactful change in the world. It amazes me the amount of companies in the food industry that forgo potential profit to help others. While this can be seen in all industries to a certain extent, the amount of social programs in place by food companies is overwhelming. From a CEO riding her bike 1,500 miles to support homeless mothers [See Hitting the road for the Homeless] to a chocolate company that’s has a goal of raising $700,000 to support the Ecuadorian farmers that harvest its cacao crop [See Putting the Brand Name to Work] these companies and individuals are truly using Food For Change.
I have been an avid human rights supporter for most of my life, but I’m finally realizing that change doesn’t have to come from Washington; it can come from the dinner table. The companies I will cover in this blog are setting an example that all businesses should learn from. If we unite in our support for these companies, we can show the world that it’s profitable to be kind.
