If you love discovering new music and getting inspired to cook, this new program will have you racing to check the mail every month. Turntable Kitchen (TK), a web-based service produced out of San Francisco, has created an innovative monthly program called the Turntable Kitchen Pairings Box, a curated food-and-music experience that’s delivered to your door for $25 a month.
“The Pairings Box is an extension of what we’re already doing on the site. We’ve been thinking about ways we could extend the concept of food and music pairing into something physical,” says Kasey Fleisher Hickey, co-editor of the site with husband Matthew Hickey.
“We love getting stuff in the mail and love a curated experience,” Hickey continues, “so we thought, why not a Pairings Box that once a month and gives you not just a product, but an opportunity to share an experience.”
On the music end of the deal, you’ll receive a hand-numbered 7-inch vinyl single, featuring a pair of tracks by one of TK’s favorite artists or bands and a downloadable TK-curated digital mixtape filled with new music the duo is listening to. Matthew edits the music side of the business, and is a vinyl fan through and through. “I buy all of my favorite new albums on vinyl, whether it is Beirut’s The Rip Tide or a Radiohead remix. I love hitting antique stores and used-record bins to seek out all of my favorite old Motown and 60s/70s garage-rock records,” Matthew says. “We love to throw a record on while we are working in the kitchen.”
To inspire you to fire up the stove while cranking your new tunes, you’ll get a collection of three seasonal, themed recipes with a local bent. The box will also include one to two premium dried ingredients that correspond to that month’s recipe theme, as well as suggested pairings, tasting notes and additional insights into the music and food. Expect surprises too. Occasionally you’ll get a treat in the form of edible goodies, artist recipes, special reviews and bonus songs. Interested?
