sofi Gold Winner 2010
Outstanding Vinegar

Dewey Lucero, owner and founder of Corning, Calif.-based Lucero Olive Oil, says winning a sofi™ Gold Award comes as a surprise to his company. “We are an olive oil company and we got into the production of Balsamic vinegar because we had a lot of people asking us for it,” he explains, “but we never expected to have a great Balsamic vinegar.”

Lucero introduced a single traditional Balsamic about two and half years ago, and within about a year of the release, noticed that “people were getting into Balsamic vinegars and becoming more educated about them.” This observation led the company to create a line of flavored Balsamics; award-winning Peach Balsamic, introduced at the beginning of 2010, is the latest of six vinegars.

This aromatic white balsamic vinegar originates in Modena, Italy and is an exclusive blend.  Lucero, working directly with a top Italian producer, researched and tested many variations before landing on a winning recipe in 2009. Several trials with different varieties of fruit blended with white Balsamic vinegar finally satisfied Lucero and the vinegar maker.

Peach Balsamic is ideal with salads and is an unexpected topping for vanilla ice cream. Lucero expects to release a Strawberry and Tangerine-Mandarin Balsamic in the near future. Dennis Marrero
