Ernest Hemingway was known for writing classic literature. Mariel, his granddaughter, has made a name for herself as a devotee of healthful living through her two-year-old company Mariel’s Kitchen, and through her newest book, Mariel’s Kitchen – Simple Ingredients for a Delicious and Satisfying Life.

In her cookbook, you’ll find a recipe for her newest product, Blisscuits™, which she created in her own kitchen in 2003 when a family member was diagnosed with cancer. Hemingway’s recipe is based on her belief that the macronutrients supplied to our bodies influence the way we can absorb vitamins and other nutrients. Blisscuits contain no sugar, flour or synthetic ingredients. “In order to be happy and live a healthy life, it is vital to fuel your body with clean food. I set out to make a cookie that my family could eat without having to worry about its nutritional content,” says Hemingway.

All four flavors are gluten-free, all-natural, contain cage-free egg whites, Omega-3 fatty acids and more than 40 percent organic ingredients with no refined sugar or hydrogenated oils. And each flavor showcases an ingredient that is naturally beneficial to your health. Take the cinnamon, which has been shown to lower blood pressure and been used as a folk cure for diabetes for hundreds of years. Or lemon, which has tocopherols, a natural antioxidant. Hemingway is currently traveling the country doing book signings for her cookbook. Follow her on Twitter and Facebook or read her blog.—Denise Shoukas
