Namibia

German heritage in South Africa
user rating
0.0 out of 5 stars(0)

The mix of cultures in Namibia is reflected in the diverse cuisine of the South African country. The breads, pastries, schnitzels, sauerkraut and lagers recall Namibia's German heritage, while the braai (barbecue) and wines are a testament to South Africa's influence on the Namibian way of life.

Throughout the country, you can expect to find delicious beef, which some claim to rival Argentina's meat. Lamb, goat and wild game are also abundant. The braai is perhaps South Africa's most significant contribution to Namibia’s cuisine. Traditional meals often include barbecued sausages, kebabs and ribs, prepared in a variety of ways. Namibians also have access to an array of fresh seafood, especially crayfish. Potjie (stew) made with lamb and vegetables is a common meal. Biltong (dried meat), asparagus and mealie pap (maize porridge) are also widely consumed.
