Thought sugar was only sweet? Experiment with its savory (and fruity) side this holiday season with Essential Cane, 100 percent natural and Fair Trade-certified flavored sugar from Flavor Storm. Twelve flavors range from Sweet Onion, Green Chile and Ginger to Cinnamon Raspberry, Espresso and Wild Blueberry.

Unlike other flavored sugars that use oils or artificial flavors, Essential Cane is made with only two ingredients: raw sugar and all-natural whole flavor mates like Red Oregon Raspberries, Korintje Cinnamon, Real Lemon and Tahitian Vanilla Beans.

Here are some usage ideas for the holidays and all year:

CLOVER: A sprinkle adds a sweet flavor dimension to holiday ham.

ESPRESSO: Mix with sea salt and use as a spice rub on steak or add to chocolate chip cookie dough.

GINGER: Add to a steaming cup of tea or caramelize on top of crème brulee.

GREEN CHILE: Shake onto hot cocoa or chocolate ice cream.

HABANERO: Try a dash to a Bloody Mary for an extra punch.

LIME: Rim a glass of sparkling water or add a shake to homemade guacamole.

SWEET ONION: Add a pinch to your favorite creamy soup or try on asparagus with olive oil before roasting.

TANGERINE: Use to line the pan before baking your favorite loaf or dessert bread for a sweet crust. Or, sprinkle over vanilla yogurt to create a healthy creamsicle.
