Organic Candy Canes
A healthful makeover for a classic holiday treat.
user ratingYou know the holidays are upon us when you begin to see those boxes of red-and-white-striped candy canes. Well, this year the ubiquitous peppermint sweet is getting a healthful makeover. The folks at Pure Fun, dedicated makers of better-for-you hard candies and lollipops, are introducing USDA-certified organic candy canes. Available in traditional and minis, these canes are healthier than those traditionally sweetened with corn syrup. Pure Fun’s candy canes are low on the glycemic index and are sweetened with organic brown rice syrup and organic evaporated cane juice.
The company also uses organic fruit juice for coloring as well as real peppermint oil for flavor. The candy canes are kosher Pareve, dairy- and cassein-free and suitable for vegans and children and adults who are intolerant or allergic to synthetic foods. The candy canes retail for approximately $4.49 for a box of 12, or $14.50/pound for the minis, and are available at select Whole Foods Markets throughout the U.S. and Canada as well as many online retailers.
