Outstanding Pet Product 2008: Big Bark Bakery Mega Bite Peanut Treat

About Fifteen years ago, Jennifer Selzer and her husband Greg had a beagle named Annie who had allergies. Serious allergies.

“She was allergic to dirt, trees, everything a dog likes to roll around in,” says Selzer. “Luckily at the time, we had a forward-thinking vet who recommended we try all-natural food as a way of making the allergies better. We found the food easily enough, but all-natural biscuits were harder to come by—so we made some and Annie loved them,” she continues. The Selzers shared these biscuits with friends, family, sold them at weekend craft fairs, and eventually the Big Bark Bakery of Dallas, Texas, was born.

The company created its original Mega Bite 8-inch dog biscuit initially as a special request for the Origins® skincare company to use in gift baskets, and it quickly became Big Bark’s best-selling product.

This year’s Outstanding Pet Product, The Mega Bite Peanut Treat, is made with whole-wheat flour, corn meal, wheat germ, a little egg, vegetable oil and a bit of crushed peanuts. The company also offers it in Oatmeal Cinnamon.

“All of our products are made with human-grade ingredients and contain no salt, no sugar and no preservatives.
