Pumpkin Pie Soda
Drink dessert or pair with cheese and crackers.
user ratingWhen you serve the pumpkin pie this year, be sure to have a straw handy.
Just in time for Thanksgiving, Portland, Maine’s Maine Root, maker of all-natural, Fair Trade certified, handcrafted soda that is sweetened with organic evaporated cane juice, has captured the flavors of traditional Pumpkin Pie in a bottle. With hints of cinnamon, clove and vanilla, Pumpkin Pie soda, is “just like eating a slice of pumpkin pie,” says company founder Matthew Seiler.
The subtle sweetness of Pumpkin Pie soda is a good contrast to salty foods making it compatible with snacks like chips or cheese and crackers. The soda, which the company plans to sell throughout the holiday season, retails from $1.50-$1.99 a bottle and can be found nationwide at select Whole Foods Markets, Hannaford Brothers, Fresh Plus and Central Market. It also can be ordered online at maineroot.com.
Founded four years ago with its signature Root Beer, Maine Root’s other soda flavors include Sarsaparilla, Ginger Brew, Lemon-Lime, Mandarin Orange and Blueberry. Seiler can often be found delivering cases locally in Portland in a vegetable-powered VW Diesel that he converted to run on recycled fryer oil collected from local restaurants.—Nicole Denis
