Risotto on the Go
The bagel chip guy takes on rice.
user ratingYou’re busy and some days not so inspired to stand over a pot of risotto for 20 minutes, stirring until it’s creamy and delicious. For those times when your risotto hankering is strong but your time is short, try Risotto Chips—thin, crispy, dippable chips made with whole-grain brown rice, Arborio rice flour, whole-grain corn flour and sesame seeds that are lightly seasoned with natural herbs and spices. Available in Spicy Marinara, Parmesan & Roasted Garlic, and Sea Salt, they look like speckled tortilla chips, but taste light and rich. The chips are gluten-free and surprisingly nutritious with 11 grams of whole grains, providing 13 percent of the Recommended Daily Allowance.
The inventor of Risotto Chips is the same man who created the famous Bagel Crisp (known as the Bagel Chip at its inception) that took over the snack category in the late 1970s. It all started more than 30 years ago in a gourmet cheese shop, when Jim Burns and Gary Ricker decided to serve gourmet cheese samples on toasted bagel slices instead of crackers in order to deal with all of the leftover bagels at the end of the day. The toasted bagel slices were an instant hit and soon became bigger than the shop’s deli business, and the pair eventually started New York Style snacks. Burns has been dreaming up new snacks for New York Style ever since. Watch more of the story below or follow New York Style on Facebook and Twitter.—Denise Shoukas
