Outstanding Product Line
Rarely will a product line include a range from juice to cooking sauce to candy. But family-owned-and-operated The Ginger People, Marina, Calif., is a distinctive brand, undaunted by the challenge of incorporating ginger into everything.
The parent company, Royal Pacific Foods, was established in 1984 at a time when “Americans didn’t identify with ginger,” according to Christie Pearson, vice president of sales and marketing. At the time, Australian Bruce Leeson set out to increase ginger’s prominence in the U.S. and his perseverance ultimately led to The Ginger People retail brand, launched in 1997. It has since grown to be an extensive line of premium ginger products. “A lot of our success has to do with people wanting to get more out of what they eat, but without sacrificing flavor,” remarks Pearson.
Whether bottled as Hot Ginger Jalapeño Sauce or baked as Ginger Shortbread, The Ginger People’s all-natural products boast a dynamic flavor profile and numerous functional benefits, rooted in centuries-old herbal medicine. Considering the healthful perks of daily ginger consumption—from promoting digestion to boosting immunity—it’s not only a way to spice up meals but also to invigorate the body. Careful manufacturing and a sustainable approach are important to the company. “We used to dispose of the leftover sugar syrup…but after realizing that it was heavily infused with ginger flavor, we decided to bottle it,” notes Pearson. The bottled ginger syrup is now one of the manufacturer’s best-selling products.—Alex Menglide
