Simply Delish - Chunky Dip: Sweet Chili

sofi Gold Winner 2010
Outstanding Appetizer, Antipasto, Salsa or Dip

Prior to this year, most Americans had never heard of this type of dip. “The Chunky Dip concept has never been outside of Australia,” says Steven Salsberg, president of The Salsberg Group, the worldwide representative for Simply Delish. “In Australia it is a household name with 70 percent of consumers buying it weekly, the same way Americans buy cream cheese or mayo,” he continues.

Created from a family recipe by Con Triantafylidis, the dips are better known in Australia as Wattle Valley Chunky Dips. Simply Delish Chunky Dips, a name created for the U.S. market, get their ‘chunk’ mostly from chopped cashews but also from the way in which the products are made. “The order in which the ingredients are added makes the dips special,” says Salsberg.

Chunky Dip “is so much more than a salsa,” notes Salsberg and can be used in wraps as a healthful sandwich filler (as an alternative to butter or margarine) and even tossed on pasta. This year’s sofi™ Gold Winner, Sweet Chili Chunky Dip, is pesto-like in texture and has a complex combination of sweet and spicy flavors. Sweet peppers and sun-dried tomatoes are combined with spices, Parmesan cheese and cashews.

This fall, Simply Delish will introduce eight additional flavors, including Arugula, Hummus, Beetroot and Roasted Pumpkin. Nicole Denis
