Cruise Line Highlights Slow Food
Forget the 24-hour buffet.
user ratingI’ve generally stayed away from cruises for fear of the 24-hour buffet. Being trapped at sea with mediocre food doesn’t sound rejuvenating to me at all. However, Silversea Cruises—a luxury all-suite cruise line—gives me hope that I can hit the high seas, as it’s joined forces with Slow Food Promozione, an arm of Slow Food Italy, an international organization dedicated to promoting greater enjoyment of food through a better understanding of its taste, quality and production. The collaboration will focus on highlighting the Italian heritage of La Terrazza, a specialty restaurant featured onboard five of the ships: Silver Cloud, Silver Wind, Silver Shadow, Silver Whisper and Silver Spirit.
La Terrazza will source food products from around the world that meet the standards of Slow Food. Say goodbye to chicken fingers and french fries. Starting this summer, with voyages to Europe and the Mediterranean, Silversea’s La Terrazza will be display the Presidio Slow Food logo next to foods that comply with the philosophy of Slow Food, including products made by producers that are part of the Terra Madre project, a global network of food communities committed to responsible and sustainable food production. They’ll also roll out Slow Food culinary voyages, designed to showcase products of excellent gastronomic quality, help guests rediscover the joys of eating, and understand the importance of caring where their food comes from, who makes it and how it’s made. Bon voyage!—Denise Shoukas
