The New Lunchbox

Kids and adults can help conserve in style.

I loved my Scooby-Doo lunchbox as a kid but as an eco-conscious adult, I’m on board with the Kids Konserve waste-free, reusable lunch kits. Don’t let the company name fool you: The designs are cool for any age, with caterpillars and butterflies for kids and other simpler bags for adults. Comprised of individual reusable containers and beverage bottles, all items are made from the safest, non-leaching, BPA, lead-free and phthalate-free materials. My favorite item: The Food Kozy™ (set of 5 for $23).

Say goodbye to plastic baggies and foil as this reusable food wrap easily covers sandwiches, cheese, cut apples or anything you need to preserve for later.

The company was the brainchild of Chance Claxton and Lynn Julian, who were concerned by how much waste was created every time they packed their kids’ lunches. They researched and discovered that one child generates an average of 67 pounds of lunchtime trash per school year, which was enough to get them designing these waste-free lunch kits. But they wanted to do more, so they’ve created a company that is also a source of educational information that parents, schools and children can use to keep learning about their responsibilities to the environment. The company will help you start Waste-Free Challenges in your child’s school, which benefit the environment and raise money for the school.

Available at kidskonserve.com and in select retail locations, the lunch kits cost between $42 and $45. Follow the company on Facebook and Twitter.—Denise Shoukas
