I’m hooked on trend lists whether they focus on fashion, celebrities or food. One trend that caught my attention is the next wave of superfruits, those uber-healthful exotic fruits like pomegranate, mangosteen, açaí, acerola and goji berry that have made a name for themselves in teas, functional beverages, smoothies, snack bars and cereals.

What’s next? Earthfruits, a company based in Utah, is betting it’s the Cupuaçu from northern Brazil. Admired for its creamy, chocolaty taste (it’s related to the cacao tree), it’s often used for jams, fruit juice and ice cream. Someone may finally be turning my ice cream habit into a healthy one! -Denise Shoukas
