Treacle Tart

Chef David Ward of Knees Up Catering shares his family recipe for treacle tart.

Ingredients:

1 10-inch pie shell, prebaked

For Filling:

12 tablespoons Tate and Lyles Golden Syrup (no substitutions)
2 ounces fresh white bread crumbs
Zest of 2 lemons
3 tablespoons lemon juice

Method:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In microwave, warm the golden syrup.
  • Fold remaining filling ingredients into the syrup. Pour mix into pie shell, leaving ¼ inch at top.
  • Place filled pie shell on a cookie sheet, in case syrup boils over and bake for 35 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and cool at least 20 minutes.
  • Serve with whipped cream or English Custard.
