Urbanspoon.com
Restaurant finder, ranker, reviewer
user ratingLooking for a restaurant? Try urbanspoon.com. It’s different than other review sites because it aggregates restaurant reviews from across the web and articles by newspaper and professional food critics as well as adds bloggers’ thoughts and diners’ reviews. It sounds like a lot to digest, but it’s organized in a streamlined way with helpful segments like gluten-free-friendly, vegan-friendly, BYOB and free delivery. And the site offers an iPhone app. Other cool features include a polling system to rank restaurants, and my all-time favorite tool—“Can't decide where to eat?” It’s a slot machine—either enter your zip code and it will upload all the local restaurants or, even better, choose a neighborhood, cuisine and price, click Spin and let it pick a restaurant for you. Recently, I chose “Upper West Side, Greek and $$” and got a restaurant I’d never heard of even though I’ve lived in the neighborhood for more than ten years. The site provides reviews for restaurants in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Australia, so check it out when you’re traveling.—Denise Shoukas
