Winter Fancy Food Show Day 3
The People Behind the Products
user rating
As the third and final day of the Winter Fancy Food Show draws to a close, it's impossible not to reflect on the passionate and talented producers that make such a gathering possible. From seasoned veterans such as Jelly Belly, to growing artisans like Vosges Chocolates, so many of these foods come from independent family-based roots.
One young British entrepreneur and chocolatier, Louis Barnett, started his business at age 12, and today he's been dubbed Europe's most promising young entrepreneur, is working on three books, and has an internationally successful brand of chocolate bars, Chokolit —and he's only 19. With such flavors as milk chocolate with lime and dark chocolate with coconut, the Chokolit line, laden with images of endangered species, donates 10% of its earnings to various animal charities around the world.
For this Fancy Food Show first-timer, meeting the people behind the quality products and learning about the struggles and successes brings the pleasure of specialty food to a whole new level.—Eva Meszaros
