Women Chefs Reign Supreme in Britain
Check out Michelin Guide’s new stars.
user ratingA woman’s place is finally in the kitchen—Michelin-starred kitchens in Britain, that is. The number of female head chefs who received Michelin stars in the 2009 Michelin Guide for Great Britain & Ireland has nearly doubled in just 12 months, rising to ten from only six a year ago. Among the new two-stars is Claude and Claire Bosi’s Hibiscus Restaurant in London. Also in London is the French chef Hélène Darroze at Connaught, who received one star, and Angela Hartnett, who was awarded one star for Murano. To earn one or more stars in a Michelin Guide means that a restaurant is not only one of the best in its country but also one of the most outstanding in the world. Out of 1,838 restaurants in this Guide, only three received three-Michelin-stars, 16 received two-Michelin-stars and 118 received one-Michelin-star, proving that these women are in good company. –Denise Shoukas
